Apple Rolls

1 ½ cups self-rising flour

3 Tbls. shortening

Enough milk to moisten flour

½ cup margarine

2 cups water

1 ¼ cups sugar

1 ½ tsp. vanilla

3 ½ cups apples, peeled and chopped

½ cup brown sugar

1 ½ tsp. cinnamon

Mix flour and shortening; moisten with milk. Chill.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a 9×13-inch baking dish, add margarine, water, sugar, vanilla. Let mixture get hot. Stir occasionally.

Roll chilled dough into a large circle. Sprinkle apples, brown sugar and cinnamon on dough. Roll up as you would a jelly roll. Cut into 1 ½ inch slices and drop into hot butter mixture. Bake slowly until golden brown or about 1 hour.
